Reading the Bible with the Global Church

Redcliffe College Lecture in Bible and Mission 2011We all come to the Bible with our own perspectives, insights and blind spots, which is why reading it with others is vital. But often the groups we are part of come from similar cultural backgrounds. Are there things we could be missing?
Imagine being part of a Bible Study group made up of believers from Britain, Bangladesh, Brazil, Burkina Faso and Bulgaria. How might this open our eyes to read God’s Word afresh?

The Redcliffe Lecture on Bible and Mission 2011: Reading the Bible with the Global Church will take place on Wednesday 30 March from 7.00pm to 9.00pm and will be delivered by Eddie Arthur, Executive Director of Wycliffe Bible Translators who will explore what it means to read the Bible alongside believers around the world. There will also be discussion groups led by church leaders to unpack what this might look like in a local congregation context.

Finance and Fundraising Workshop for People in Christian Ministry

How much am I worth? - A day workshop for people in Christian ministry, focusing on finance and fundraising - Saturday 29 January 2011 from 9:30am-4:00pm at Redcliffe CollegeHow much am I worth?

Many people involved in Christian ministry ask themselves this question.  The responsibility to raise financial support for the work they are called to can raise fears and questions about identity and self-worth.  Coupled with a daunting level of personal financial need in a time of national economic restraint, the task can seem overwhelming.  But there are encouragements and answers.

This day seminar run by Ted Pilling (a representative of the UK Navigators and a Redcliffe College MA graduate), helps to answer the questions. Ted has taught this course to hundreds of people over the past 20 years, and he has many more years of experience of living by its principles.

Read about ‘Justice and Mission’ in the latest edition of the Encounters Mission Journal

Encounter Mission Journal Issue 35 - Justice & MissionThe issue of justice is critically important in contemporary mission. It underlines the whole basis of Jesus’ ministry mandate, and should shape a Kingdom-oriented theology. Socio-political, economic and environmental dimensions of life are integral aspects of our faith – it’s about how we live and not just what we proclaim! More than ever, our globalised culture informs and challenges us to respond to issues of injustice; so what will we do about it?

This issue of encounters includes papers written by members of the Faculty at Redcliffe, and from a diverse range of academics and practitioners, all involved in some aspects of justice and mission. We hope this diversity will enlighten your reading and provoke you to respond.

We look forward to hearing from you, so please join the conversation by giving us your critiques, comments and questions!
